Malky Mackay starts Cardiff City loan search

Malky Mackay hopes to strengthen his Cardiff City squad with loan signings as the Bluebirds want to maintain their Championship play-off push.

Mackay has already signed 10 players since succeeding Dave Jones in June but the Cardiff boss wants to add more, as 12 players have leftsince last term.

The permanent transfer window has shut but Football League clubs are able to sign players on loan.

“We’re certainly going to be looking,” confirmed Mackay.

Cardiff are short of attacking options following the departures of Craig Bellamy, Jay Bothroyd, Michael Chopra, Chris Burke and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas in the summer.

Mackay will trawl the Premier League clubs, now all top-flight clubs have all named their 25-man squads, hoping to secure new additions.

“It is a small pool you have to fish in of who the Premier League clubs would like to loan out,” said Mackay.

“Even among that there is criteria like wages that are astronomical or youngsters who are not ready to play in the Championship yet.

“So there’s a small band and I would imagine about 15 clubs in this league are looking for them – and we’re one of them.

“We certainly need a little bit of strength in depth if we are going to make it through a 46-game league season.

“We need strengthening in every area.”

Aron Gunnarsson and Filip Kiss returned from injury in Cardiff’s 2-0 win over bottom side Doncaster Rovers on Saturday as the Welsh club moved up to sixth in the Championship, while fellow midfielder Stephen McPhail is nearing full fitness.

Cardiff travel to rival promotion chasers Blackpool on Saturday, before a Carling Cup midweek tie at home to Leicester City.

An interesting few months

Another rotten summer has passed us by, no money for a holiday, desperate to get away, stress at work, nothing changes.

Thankfully there have been a few positives to report.

Firstly, I got the all-clear on my bladder cancer from my Consultant. Don’t need to see him for another 12 months!

This was followed up by our lad getting a fantastic set of results from his GCSE’s, so proud!

Last but not least, Cardiff City finally got rid of Dave Jones and put Malky Mackay in charge. After dong a pretty swift re-build he’s getting the guys in shape and we’re nicely placed in 7th after 5 games.

Eight months of the year gone, four to go. I wonder what it has in store for us all?
